She knows she does

It’s never her intent

She just needs him

And that scares her

Because she knows

He doesn’t need her

In quite the same way

That fear shows itself

In the most unexpected

And ruinous of ways

Really its sadness and

A sense of heartache

But she wonders if

He might somehow

Need her in return

If it’s the reason why

He keeps himself

At a careful distance

Not getting too close

As a way to protect

Her precious heart

Instead of his own

But she needs him

And wants him

Just a little bit closer
