Sand

We have both drawn lines in the sand

Lines we will not cross

We falter under an illusion

That by shifting positions

We can change the ground we stand

But these lines are deep

And no swirling sea of emotion

Or lack thereof

Will fill the marks we designate

For the place they keep

Draws the dividing line

That separates us

Spares us from one another

And the harm we would endure
