A Different Kind of Dark

Black is not emptiness

Or an absence of colour

It is a container

That holds them all

The boldest blues

The purest purples

The gentlest greens

And the rarest reds

Black hints toward

Shadows and shade

Depth of perception

Not illuminating

But highlighting 

What is hidden behind

Underneath

What is felt more than seen

Eyes must remain open

To see the depth of black

It is a different kind of dark
