Because I Am Your Father

Because I am your father,

I have loved you from the first moment you drew breath and took mine away.

Because you are my child,

I held your hand in mine and found my whole world wrapped in your fingers.

Because I am your father,

I walked beside you as you took your first steps and from those steps you learned to dance.

Because you are my child,

I held my breath each time you stumbled and fell for in those moments I wanted to catch you.

Because I am your father,

My heart has broken in your disappointment and soared in your success.

Because you are my child,

I stand beside you as you choose your life’s direction, even when I can’t follow where you lead.

Because I am your father,

I am learning to be more understanding for I am truly proud of the person that you have become.

Because you are my child,

I support you, cherish you, and love you, in everything and all that you do.

I do this simply because,

I am your father and you are my child.
