Spare Change for a Coffee
Fancy facts but lives short. World
glamorous homes arise unkempt and question
the glamorous. “Night feels magnificent,” state
glamorous facts, but cast a stocky study.
Fancy coffees slay the short study.

At first I thought the randomizer wasn't working after getting the word fancy and glamorous repeatedly as well as fact and study, but then the rest of the words filled in and I was struck by the sense of appearances... particularly rich vs. poor. I took the final instruction in the prompt to heart... that punctuation is a friend and that helped to make it flow in the way that I saw it (I hope). I chose this image to accompany the write because I thought it highlighted nicely both the title as well as the overall idea.
It was a really good way to go with the words you were given. I think I especially like how you worked in this idea of night meaning such completely different things depending on the perspective. A well off person looks at it as the perfect time to show off their evening wear. A homeless person just hopes to make it through.
ReplyDeleteThank you! That's exactly what struck me with the words.
DeleteAll right, I need to say that I LOVE that you brought dialogue into it! And the way "facts", in its fancy and glamorous personas, becomes characters in your poem. And the end, well... don't you just love how coffee has a way of making everything yummier?
ReplyDeleteAbout dearest questionable randomizer... I felt the same way. I mean, I kept on getting "flabby" and "scruffy". But like you, I ran screaming towards punctuation... and things began to take shape.
Thank you so much!
I put in the first word list and kept getting glamourous. And then I was singing Sheila E's "The Glamorous Life" and that made me think about what really is important... the glamorous life that seems so fine or is it comfort and safety etc. Love how much this prompt made me think about something completely random. The dialogue came along near the end and really fit my idea. Wasn't sure it would work. I'm so glad it did! :) Oh, and the fancy coffee... you can pay more than $7 for a single coffee... there's something ironic about that! It's no longer spare change! They do taste yummy, but I only drink them when I'm feeling glamorous!
DeleteP.S. I agree, the image and title dance well with the piece.
ReplyDeleteOh, very clever. I didnt know we could use words more than once. That might have helped me. LOL.
ReplyDeleteIf I had randomly picked my own words I wouldn't have chosen the same one twice. The randomizer decided to spit the same words back out at me. So that for me was a challenge! Lol!
DeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteThis is masterfully done, Lori!!! ❤️ Kudos.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Appreciated! :)
DeleteThis is great! Love the last line ....
ReplyDeleteThank you very kindly!
DeleteVery interesting - I think you did it correctly (I didn't fully understand) Yes, there is a poor vs rich vibe here.
ReplyDeleteThank you. Took me a bit to figure it out myself.
DeleteA fun read, Lori. We sort of like fancy coffees here. Except I have grown tired of Hazelnut. I think it is wonderful that Randomizer spits out words where we should close gracefully.
ReplyDelete..
For me it's the salted caramel macchiato. Can't get enough of the salty/sweet, chocolate/coffee goodness. But for the cost of one fancy coffee out I could make about 12 regular pots at home. Being the frugal (read: miser) person that I am they are a treat I indulge in rarely. I thought using the randomizer was rather fun.
DeleteWonderful, Lori! The photo was an enhancement to it all.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
