To Breathe Again...

To Breathe Again...

Sometimes I wonder what keeps us from drowning.  Being pulled by the tide.  The highs and the lows.  One minute you're sitting on the sand and the next you're being pulled by the undertow.  Swept away in a breath.  It's a gasp that would extinguish a candle.  Inhale too hard and the light goes out.  But in holding your breath the flame flickers and stills.  By holding your breath you rise to the surface, keeping your head above water.  And it is this paradox that always astounds me.  That sometimes you need to hold your breath in order to breathe.
