Bottle the Night

Bottle the Night

Do not be afraid
Of darkness so deep
Shut your eyes soundly
And drift off to sleep

Like lightning bugs
On a starless night
We flicker and flare
As our souls take flight

And we'll capture the moon
In a little glass jar
And bathe in the glow
Of a distant star

We'll fear not this darkness
Nor dreams that may fright
We'll cast spells of love
And bottle the night

  1. Oh Lori, I like this so very much, what a novel theme, very clever. And I relate, but in a negative way. I do not like the dark. When I was small we lived in the country and had an outhouse toilet. At night I needed my younger sister to walk there with me in the dark, she would carry a light. Even now I sleep with the bathroom and the utility room lights on. Your last lines are wonderful,
    "We'll cast spells of love
    And bottle the night
    .
But even here I would have those dim lights and hopefully some from the muted TV.

    1. I love the dark but always fall asleep with the tv on. But the dark in the country seems darker than most so I understand your fear entirely! Thank you so much!

  2. Such a lovely lullaby! The rhymes provide it a nice rhythm, turning it into a song for/of the night. :-)

  3. This has me imagining the moon as a firefly, and thereby all fireflies being mini-moons too. :)
