Lifeline

I have loved you from time immemorial.  All my life I waited, not knowing who I was waiting for or why.  I drifted upon life’s currents without direction, until you found me adrift upon its waters.  My heart ached and my soul cried out… That’s him!  Don’t let him pass you by!  Paddle, swim, do whatever you must, but grab hold and don’t ever let go!  Yet I floundered at the depth by which this love flows, so when I jumped in with both feet I found myself drowning.  Until you threw me a lifeline and pulled me to you.
