Miss Communication
She told him to follow
Flaming Lips Alley
Where she would be
Ready and waiting
He wasn’t sure
He’d heard her correctly
Could this be it?
He expected red
Bright red
Fire engine red
So flaming hot
You need to
Peel off your clothes
Red
But what he got was green
Sickeningly green
Dull and deflated
His excitement quickly evaporated
When he discovered
He wasn’t the only one
To whom she gave directions
And he was utterly dismayed to find
He wasn’t the first to arrive

Nicely done, Lori. I've got a girl in an alley today, too; bit clearly it's a different alley... Salute!
ReplyDeleteLol. Thank you.
DeleteYou took an image that could be interpreted in any number of ways and made a story out of it, Lori. I like the reversed stop – go colours!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't even thought about the colour reversal until you just said it. But it's so absolutely true. And ties into the traffic lights in the background of the image. Thank you so much! (I kept seeing the flaming lips as red and street signs where I am are green so that's what inspired the colour choices for me).
DeleteBrilliant response to the prompt, Lori! I enjoyed it immensely 💖💖
ReplyDeleteThank you very kindly!
Deletenow there's a twist!
ReplyDeleteA wrong turn was taken somewhere! Lol. Thank you!
DeleteYes, I love the twist in this. You took what might feel expected and twisted into a whole different story. Thank you so much for taking part in the prompt!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The title didn't come to me until the end and I think it tied everything up quite neatly. I had actually picked the fair scene first to work with but this one kept calling out to me quite loudly to write something for it. I imagined someone speeding to their destination having this preconceived idea in their head as to what they thought would be happening and then having to put the brakes on full stop! Thank you for the use of the picture and I'm glad you liked the direction the colour prompt took me. :)
DeleteA very clever take on the prompt! Miss Communication indeed! LOL. I can picture the men standing in line and tapping their feet.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Expecting a private party for one and finding out it's a group date. Lol!
DeleteOne's expectations are often way too high, like you are the only clown in this circus. Nicely told tale, Lori.
ReplyDelete..
Thank you so much.
DeleteO the subtleties and misdirections of the word, like -- well, like when Hey Joe means Oh No.
ReplyDeleteThe difference between what is said and what is heard for sure!
DeleteI love the direction this took!
DeleteThank you.
