We Laugh A While Longer
"There are moments that cry out to be fulfilled. Like, telling someone you love them. Or giving your money away, all of it." - Mary Oliver - Moments
“Well, you can’t take it with you!”
That’s what my mother says.
“Might as well enjoy it
While I still can.
And when I’m gone
You can just roll me up
In one of my quilts
And leave me by the curb.”
I laugh at the idea,
Not because it’s nonsensical,
But because that’s my mother to a T
Pragmatic and practical.
And I can’t say that I blame her,
Might as well get
While the getting’s good,
Because you certainly can’t
Once you’re gone.
Money is like time -
You shouldn’t waste,
What you can spend.
So we laugh a while longer.
