Weather
I can't do this anymore
These superficial conversations
About the weather
We search for sunny days
And trace over the clouds
Talk our way around the storms
But the darkened sky
Fills this space
The thunder of your words
The lightning of your anger
Has left me hesitant
To brave the downpour
The storm warnings are there
And I wonder whether
I should speak to you at all
It's raining again
My feet are wet
And I've lost my umbrella

Oh I love this response to the prompt. We talk about "safe" topics, avoiding the truth unspoken. Well said. Love the closing lines: wet feet and no umbrella.
ReplyDeleteExactly! Thank you so much! :)
DeleteLosing one's umbrella...losing one's protection but also losing one's barrier to the truthful experience. This is so beautifully written, Lori. Thank you for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. I like how you've grabbed onto the umbrella.
DeleteThis is deeply evocative!
ReplyDeleteThank you. The clouds in the photo really helped to develop the idea for me.
DeleteI know that feeling when it is hard to brave the downpour and loosing your umbrella. Very clever. Stunning poem and photo
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. Sometimes you just have to stand in the rain and get wet.
DeleteSadly there is no place to hide when the time comes...certainly not in a bank vault with one's money!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that the truth. Thank you so much.
DeleteI know what you mean in your poem. It captures so well some interactions I'd rather not have; full with pretentiousness and avoiding the truth. Deep write, Lori!
ReplyDeletePrecisely. Thank you.
DeleteWeathering a relationship is never easy, and it’s even harder when your feet are wet and you’ve lost your umbrella. I especially appreciate the lines:
ReplyDelete‘The thunder of your words
The lightning of your anger
Has left me hesitant
To brave the downpour’.
Thank you very much. It's one thing if you have your umbrella to battle the elements and quite another if you're unprepared. Not even galoshes to keep the feet dry.
DeleteGreat stuff, Lori...beautiful concluding lines.... A spiritual reminder that has impacted millions and helped them find peace within their own hearts.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
