Every life

Tells a story

And it doesn’t just tell 

Your story

Or my story

It tells our story

The story of us

Where we came from

And how we got here

Who we are 

And even why

You can read a biography

And think to yourself 

What an amazing life to have lived

But in retrospect

Everyone’s life 

Is a triumph

Big or small 

It is significant

Simply for the fact that they lived

If I were to write my own story

An autobiography

It would not begin with me

It would begin with every single person 

That came before me

Their lives

Where they came from

Who they met

What they did

And how each choice

Every consequence

Each failure and triumph

Led to my existence

My story could not begin

Until their story had been told

And as my story unfolds

It includes

Every person I have ever known

Every thing I have ever done

Every place I have ever been

Every choice I have ever made

And sometimes the story 

Feels like a tragedy

And sometimes it’s a comedy

Sometimes it’s beautiful 

Most often mundane

But it’s my story to tell

And when the time comes

That my story is over

It doesn’t really end

Because it will be told again

In every life I have touched

In every word I have written

In every heart I have loved

In every person who comes after me

Because life

     My story

       Your story

          Our story

Never ends
