Flashing an impish grin over his shoulder

Catching a hint of the nick in his eye

Wobbling tentatively on rotund legs

Having just discovered locomotion

Pudgy fingers gripping wicker

Foot lifting slowly off the ground

Earnestly trying to climb into the basket

With his stuffed friends

Knowing full well mom just said no

But temptation is too great

And with a quick look around

Does it anyway

Daring trouble and fate

And what could mom do

With a cheeky smile like that

But take his picture

Even now she looks at this photo

Capturing not only child

But a glimpse

Of the personality to come

And laughs

He is quite clearly his mother’s son
