Meant to Be
There used to be
An intensity in the way
I felt about you
That I needed it to be everything
All at once
To fit a lifetime worth of experience
Into whatever time we were given
There was a furiousness
About the feeling
This ferocious need for you
That if I somehow
Collected enough into myself
Shored it up within the walls of my heart
It would sustain me
For the rest of my life
Then I could take that feeling
And carry it with me always
But now the fire has changed
Into something entirely different
And altogether more necessary
All I truly want is
To be with you
In the same space and time
To sense your presence
Without word or touch
Knowing that we belong
To each other alone
The way we were always
Meant to be
An intensity in the way
I felt about you
That I needed it to be everything
All at once
To fit a lifetime worth of experience
Into whatever time we were given
There was a furiousness
About the feeling
This ferocious need for you
That if I somehow
Collected enough into myself
Shored it up within the walls of my heart
It would sustain me
For the rest of my life
Then I could take that feeling
And carry it with me always
But now the fire has changed
Into something entirely different
And altogether more necessary
All I truly want is
To be with you
In the same space and time
To sense your presence
Without word or touch
Knowing that we belong
To each other alone
The way we were always
Meant to be
