Death by Misadventure

That’s what they called it
And I guess that’s what it was
A 12 year old boy
On the school roof
At night
What was he doing up there
In the first place?
Looking for a lost ball?
(I did the same at his age)
Or was it something to do
To stave off boredom?
Either way 
He was up to no good
Definitely not how one 
Would plan to break in
I’m sure it started off fun
Climbing up the building 
Like Spider-Man 
Feeling daring
And was it a dare
That made you test 
The strength of the skylight?
The glass floor ceiling
Shattering 
With no web below to save you
It felt like a game
Just a bit of fun 
It was supposed to be exciting
Not dangerous
But there was someone else 
Playing with you
Death is sneaky 
And he is never one 
To miss adventure
