It's Been a Year

It’s Been a Year

It's been a year to the day

Since you walked away

And I’m finding it harder and harder to breathe

The pain in my chest feels like it could kill me

If I just gave in to it

If I let it happen

I’ve spent a year fighting back tears

It feels like swallowing broken glass

For the pain it leaves in my throat

Leaving me unable to speak

It’s been a year

And I’m still holding out hope

Like a lantern

That you will speak

After a year of silence

  1. Hope is a hard thing to give up, especially in very difficult situations. There is so much longing in this one. I'm left wonderful how the one in "silence" might respond...

    1. Hope is very hard to give up, but lamps run out of oil eventually, and I have to say things are looking dim. Thank you so much for your kind words.
