Straight Lines
I have been told
My writing is simplistic
And I’m fairly certain
It wasn’t meant as a compliment
And as far as criticism goes
It wasn’t exactly constructive
But opinions don’t bother me
It isn’t exactly easy
To take a bunch
Of convoluted thoughts
And pare them down
Into their basic elements
One that cannot be misread
Or easily misunderstood
To have the meaning laid bare
In straight lines for all to see
Sometimes simple belies simplicity
And it certainly isn’t always
As simple as it seems

I've always felt that simple minds--especially the very narrow ones--see nothing but themselves in everything they interact with. So yes, I totally agree: "Sometimes simple belies simplicity / And it certainly isn’t always / As simple as it seems".
ReplyDeleteI've never liked the idea of making something complicated just to confuse people. But that doesn't mean there isn't a complex thought process to get there. What you see is what you get, but sometimes it pays to look a little closer. Thanks so much Magaly! :)
DeleteSo true ... I've had a few of those 'swipes' ... try to brush them off, realizing my poetry is ME and I like me.
ReplyDeleteMy poetry is me and I like me too. It's those backhands you really got watch for! Thanks Helen! :)
