Eat Me Alive
I have a great wild thing
That lives within my chest
It rattles the cage
Yearning for freedom
But if it’s ever released
I know it will eat me alive
From the inside out

Lori, this is a gut punch of a poem. I've read it numerous times, I believe it lives in many, that 'wild thing' we fight so hard to keep inside 'that cage.'
ReplyDeleteI was having a hard day when I wrote this. I don't tend to get anxious but I could feel it, like something was trying to fly out of my chest. And there's nothing you can really do but try to keep it contained.
