High Tower

High Tower

I have built walls

I didn’t know were there

Years upon years

I sat down

Cross-legged

On the ground

I cleared the earth around me

Picked up stone

After stone

After stone

And I set them carefully

On top of each other

Every one tossed my direction

Was added to the pile

Until it became a circle

Around me

And as the circle grew

It became taller

Wider

Stronger

And I was safe inside

But I was also alone

No doors or windows

Just high tower walls

I built a prison

Of my own design

And who would rescue me

When no one even knows

I’m here
