Sometimes a song gets stuck in my head

And it repeats itself

Over and over again

Until I hear the music

Threaded through the silence

I mouth the words

Like I'm speaking to myself

Compelled to listen

To a stranger's voice

So I put my earphones in

To listen more intently

And when the song ends

I start it again

And again

Until I hear

What my subconscious mind

Has been trying to tell me

"You don't belong here, I know

I will still see your shadows everywhere I go"

And that is when the music

Finally leaves me alone
