Backward Glance
I would like to say
That I don't need you
That I don't need this
And it would be
Absolutely true
I could walk away
From you now
Without
A backward glance
And feel thankful
For having known you
But in the end
While I don't need you
I still want you
So I will turn around
Every time
And look for you
Even as I walk away

When I read "I don't need this," I wondered if there was too much drama in the relationship, something just didn't sit right with me. I hope she walks away for good!
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI have walked away more than a few times, always (I believe) for the right reasons. Your poem is well done, I enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteAs have I. Thanks Helen! (Got my Walkin' Boots on!)
DeleteLOL
DeletePoignant!
ReplyDeleteAh the dilemma of wanting what is bad for you...good poem !
ReplyDeleteLol. Thank you.
Delete6Gotvto do what you ought to do. Writer should keep her eyes open and jump track if things aren't right and can't be fixed. This was a nice wright, Lori, I enjoyed reading this .
ReplyDelete..
Thanks.
DeleteLove the honest feelings that surface in this, Lori.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteOwwwwwwww... for a moment I was a barely twenty something woman again, remembering that moment. It turned out for the best, but you couldn't have told her that. In fact, honoring the feelings she felt was the only way she could start to move on.
ReplyDeleteRight! Thank you so much! :)
DeleteI almost missed this late post. It's beautifully written, and touches a chord within me. Unfortunately I was not able to walk away until I was grievously wounded!!
ReplyDeleteBetter late than never. Thanks so much for coming back! :)
