Up In Smoke

Up In Smoke

You think everything is safe
But tempers flare hotter
The flame burns brighter
And suddenly your whole world
Goes up in smoke
And what is it anyway
But an illusion

  3. Holding onto feelings of safety is difficult in these times. For me, it is found within my four walls. It is scary out there! Smiles. Thanks for ploughing your way through my depressing poem. I just dont know how much more my heart can take.

    1. As you say, it can be gone in an instant. I definitely take safety for granted, it's not guaranteed. Thank you so much.

  8. Perhaps we shouldn't read, view and share news from outside our environment if we are happy there. This way we can live our lives in peace and love.

    1. News travels fast and unfortunately I don't think the best option is to close our eyes to it. Knowledge is power and seeing might mean preventing. But it certainly makes one appreciate the safety we quite often take for granted.

  9. The brevity of your poem reflects the speed at which flames consume and everything goes up in smoke. So many people are caught up in the illusion, Lori, they forget. An excellent metaphor for the human condition.

    1. Yes thank you. It's like looking out a window while driving, look away for a second and look back and the entire landscape has changed.
