Goodness Gracious
Teach me not to care
About perception
Show me how to overcome
The submission of my own voice
That yields to false narratives
Of how a woman should behave
I need to unlearn my own ideas
About a woman's "good" ness
And speak the words that ring true
Even if only to my own ears
About perception
Show me how to overcome
The submission of my own voice
That yields to false narratives
Of how a woman should behave
I need to unlearn my own ideas
About a woman's "good" ness
And speak the words that ring true
Even if only to my own ears

Hear hear! May it be so! (And I love the illustration.)
ReplyDeleteThank you. I really liked the illustration too!)
DeleteThat a good goal and done in an almost prayerful way.
ReplyDeleteI'm learning more and more that I have to be authentic to my own voice and not worry about what people may think.
DeleteYour picture looks like you are young and that surprises me because I didn't come to realize what you have until I was in my 60's. I'm glad you've come to understand "I need to unlearn my own ideas
ReplyDeleteAbout a woman's "good" ness" early. Kudos to you.
Thank you, I'm older than I look. 😊 But it has taken me quite some time to unlearn some of those lessons. To become less inhibited in using my own voice.
DeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteHallelujah!
DeleteSo mote it be!
ReplyDeleteI love how much this reads like meditation.
"I have spoken" Thanks so much Magaly.
DeleteAnd only your ears count! Love the image.
ReplyDeleteI should definitely listen to myself more. Thank you very much.
DeleteSadly so many of us have to unlearn it. I have some hope for the next generations that have learned to ask the questions I was told to ignore.
ReplyDeleteRight! I'm always happy to see that my daughter understands to question certain rules that are placed upon the girls and not upon her male peers. Times are changing but sometimes not quickly enough... and apparently they sometimes go in reverse.
DeleteAnd I say ... cheers to 'the finger' ... and to you dear Lori!
ReplyDeleteThere is something to be said about talking with your hands. Lol.
