The Bric-A-Brac Shop
I love stores like this
You walk in and the feeling is instantaneous
Like entering into a good friend’s home
The smell of old wood and finishing oil
That welcomes you
The moment you step through the door
Wandering around transfixed
Wanting to touch everything
So many interesting things
Playfully peeking out
Playfully peeking out
That capture the attention
Items placed slipshod upon the shelves
With no rhyme or reason
Just looking to fill the spaces
Shopkeepers with no quandary
About aesthetic or design
Mixing antique with new
And the eclectic assortment all seems to work
The items as varied as their purpose
Hooks and handles, clocks and candles
All sort of bits and bobs
Rendering themselves into whatever you can imagine
It’s hard to leave without a treasure
But with a momentary photo op
I take home the entire shop
Well, that is a good way to shop! With camera in hand. Loved this stroll through an interesting shop.
ReplyDeleteThank you! My favourite way to shop these days!
DeleteThere is an undeniable charm about antique and bric-a-brac stores! Thank you for writing this wonderful descriptive piece.
ReplyDeleteThere really is! So much fun to visit. Thank you.
DeleteOh yes, I so agree! And enjoyed walking around this one with you. Glad you took the photo-op. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you. The photo really was just taken on impulse but it's funny how much it makes me smile.
DeleteLori, I love to visit those shops. So I enjoyed going with you, I shop from booth to booth. Seems I always have something I'm looking for. Right now it is some matching coffee mugs.
ReplyDelete..
I like really big coffee mugs... the ones that hold two cups instead of one. I'm a big coffee lover! The search is sometimes better than the find!
DeleteI too like shops with a jumble of things. Great poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you very much! There's always something new to find!
DeleteOften in Bric-a-brac stores you find something that reminds of you of your past so you want it to keep the link alive as though you were a time traveller!
ReplyDeleteThat is so true. For me it's the old glass door knobs. They always seem to have a basket of those somewhere. And old keys.... sounds like the start of a good story!
DeleteI love jumble sales, etc. They're fun!
ReplyDeleteMe too! Thanks.
DeleteHow great!!! I love these places too, can't resist them.
ReplyDeleteThere's always something new to see. Have to visit this one every time I'm in town!!
DeleteThis is a good use of the phone... otherwise my house would be even more cramped than it is.
ReplyDeleteI couldn’t leave without something! Mine would be the same!

Yes, it is fun walking through such places. You brought it to life.
I never know what I’m gonna find. It always feels like a treasure hunt.
DeleteMy favorite kind of shops, although I end up spending far too much time in them. Love your description in words and photo.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I do too!
