The Weight of the World

The Weight of the World

You were only interested in me

Because I could carry pain

Measuring the weight of your own

You hefted your burden

Onto my shoulders

Walked with me for awhile

And then left me to struggle on alone

  1. I wish I could say I didn't know a version of this person. Energy sucking parasites. And there is always a good soul falling for their trap.

    1. Yup. Energy vampires! Stupid suckers! Lol. Was awhile before I realized I could drop their burden to lighten my own!

  2. I'm with Magaly on this one. My XYZ's wife died in September and already he is in love with an old acquaintance that he met and only saw during a church retreat. We think he is skipping some of the "Five stages of grief." I jokingly told Mrs. Jim that I would wait three years and then grow out my hair again and buy another motorcycle. Grin. Put a sign on it, "BIKER CHICK WANTED". :)

    1. Lol. We all grieve differently and some not at all. Life moves forward... Especially on a bike! :)

  3. It is so much like this as we encounter someone who takes from us, not the burden, that would be the right thing to do. They take that part of us and leave the refuse for us to carry.
May your burdens be light once more.

    1. Thank you. Would be a much better dynamic if the burden was shared and passed back and forth.

  4. Unfortunate that someone could meet this type of person, a leech and a parasite. Your poem deftly paints it.

  5. Sad that that happens and sad that I find it familiar!

  6. The weight of your words, succinct and spot on, capture that pain so well. It is mightily disappointing and sad, when people use us in this way.

  7. Take heart....it only happens to especially good and giving folk....The world is made up of few givers and a lot of takers. Hard to find genuine goodness but when you do ( and you will )it is better than winning the lottery

    1. I think we're all a little give and take. But some definitely take more than their fair share. When you find a good one it is better than gold.
